March Highlights

Cash In The Attic USA

A brand new series of the show which unearths hidden treasures to help fulfil dreams.

Cash In The Attic USA is all about people making the most of their forgotten assets to enable them to achieve things that are important to them. Each episode centres around a family with a goal – it might be to go on a special holiday, to renovate their home, or anything which requires a little extra cash. We learn about the family and take a tour of their home in the company of experts who evaluate neglected items which, if the family is willing to let them go, will be auctioned off in an attempt to raise the funds needed to fulfil their goal.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that the items will reach their estimates or that the family’s target sum will be reached, which makes every edition of the programme an intriguing guessing game.

Series 3 - Sundays from 21 March at 12:45

Bargain Hunt

Bargain Hunt combines the excitement of a competition, the fun of shopping for a bargain, and the fascination of antiques. And it’s delightfully simple: two teams of two are each given £200 and let loose at an antiques fair.

With an expert on hand to give advice, the teams have one hour to trawl the stalls and haggle for items that they hope later to sell for a higher price. Their purchases are then put to the test at a real auction, and the team which makes the most profit wins.

Even with expert help, the teams discover it's not as easy as it looks, but there are plenty of laughs and lessons along the way.

Series 17 – Sundays from 7 March at 15:05

Carluccio And The Renaissance Cookbook

In this colourful one-off documentary, Italian chef and restaurateur Antonio Carluccio investigates the life and recipes of Bartolomeo Scappi, a popular chef from the 16th century who published a cookbook containing 1,000 delicious recipes.

Antonio travels through Italy, where he cooks grilled eel in Venice, a porcini mushroom tart in Lombardy and a stuffed suckling pig banquet in Rome. He pays a visit to a restaurant on the banks of Lake Maggiore where Scappi’s masterful meals are frequently on the menu. In Venice, Antonio is delighted to discover that many of the age-old cooking techniques and recipes from Scappi’s time, including Scappi’s characteristic use of spices for his marinades, are still used in many kitchens.

Throughout his journey, Antonio cooks up an array of Scappi’s delights, which were originally created for cardinals, emperors and popes, and discovers that Scappi’s food is as celebrated today as it was almost 500 years ago.

Big Chef Takes On Little Chef

Little Chef is a British institution; a restaurant chain with 180 roadside outlets all over the UK. Olympic Breakfasts and Jubilee Pancakes loom large in the memories of many Brits, but the business has been experiencing difficulties, and in 2007 venture capitalists had to step in and save it from financial collapse. Now in its 50th year, Little Chef is in serious need of creative inspiration.

Enter Heston Blumenthal, to take on an extraordinary culinary challenge. The Michelin-starred chef applies his ingenious culinary techniques in an attempt to restore the fortunes of one of Britain’s most conventional yet iconic food brands. Heston has strong childhood memories of Little Chef, but can he work his food alchemy to breathe fresh life into the restaurant’s menu and help restore it to its former glory?

Can a chef more used to serving up £200-a-head meals turn around the fortunes of a much-loved but tired British institution? And can Heston make the British public fall in love all over again with Little Chef, and with classic British food in the process?
